Promotion Activities within the Industry
Study Mission to Myanmar The Federation held a five-day tour to Myanmar from June 25 to 29, 1999 to explore the unfamiliar Myanmar market. Participants visited many retail shops and found Myanmar an ideal place for low cost watches. In the capital Rangoon, one watch wholesaler can sell thousands of low cost watches. Participants also learned a lot about the sales network and channels of Myanmar. Back to top | More Promotion Activities Watch and Clock Column at the Hong Kong Economic Times Read about the industry's latest happenings at the Watch and Clock Column every first Friday of each month at the Hong Kong Economic Times. The column, which started publication in August 6, 1999, is a joint effort of the Federation and the HK Watch Manufacturers Association to actively improve public awareness on the watch and clock industry. The Federation and the HKWMA will provide the newspaper's reporters content for the articles. No company or manufacturer will be promoted individually in this column. Back to top | More Promotion Activities Industry innovation, technology explored The Federation is looking into the public's points of view that ranged from whether Hong Kong should develop innovation and technology to how innovation and technology can be promoted. This was an offshoot of the HKSAR chief executive's order for the Commission on Innovation and Technology to divide its work into two stages. The first stage was completed in September 1998. The second stage has likewise been completed and publicly announced. It plans to actively make enquiry with several large watch and clock groups and members, and hopes to participate in the promotion of innovation and technology related to the watch and clock industry. Back to top | More Promotion Activities Board of Directors visits the Central Government With mainland China's destined entrance to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the endless opportunities it will bring to Hong Kong businesses, we are concerned about the role Hong Kong industries and businesses can play once this happens. This was the motivation behind the Board of Directors' Beijing tour arranged by XIN HUA News Agency's Hong Kong Branch in October 1999 in the hope that this visit can give light to the changes that the mainland's market will face after joining WTO. The Board was received by representatives from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office State Council, United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, Central Customs of PRC and the Cooperative Department of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade. A report on the visit is available to our members. Back to top | More Promotion Activities |
