Watch and clock industry training and educational promotion
2-year diploma course on basics of the timepieces industry Advancements in computers and its impact on design, business and trade prompted the development of a two-year watch and clock trade and industry diploma course by the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of the Hong Kong Vocational Institute of Education (Lee Wai Lee), with the help of the Federation and the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association. The course trains recruited graduates to the basic requirements of the industry. These students completed their first year course last July 1999, received a four- to eight-week on-the-job professional training during the summer holiday and are expected to serve the industry by June 2000. The course will help solve the industry's concern in the past ten decades when the long training period affected the industry's recruitment.
